Fall Season

Where’s Fall?

Ah fall…the leaves are changing, or so I hear in some parts of the country. The morning air is cool and brisk! Coffee smells better in the fall as we awake to the crisp morning air the birds don’t even get up early any more, they at least wait till the sun is up to warm there little feathers.
Pumpkin everything is in the stores as well as some winter decorations we will not get into right now. I love fall, I have more energy in the fall, mainly to keep moving and get the blood pumping. Being cold has nothing to do with it as in the desert it’s all relative with 70 being cold and anything below 60 is time to turn the heat on if you haven’t already. A lot of people out here will wear flip flops year around and in the fall put socks on with their sandals. Really, it’s why we have a larger fall and winter population as the snowbirds come flying into town to get away from the snow and freezing temperatures and enjoy our wonderful mild winters.
I also share with all others who get an over whelming urge to clear out clutter, down size and change to doing more outside activities! We have what’s called brush & bulky pick up time out here, we can put almost anything by the curb twice a year and the city comes by and picks it up and takes it to the dump for us! We used to drive around and collect others trash to fix up and resell, sometimes it was successful. This year some of it went back to the dump where it was headed when we took it in. Now there is more room in the garage and I can get into our work shed! Yeah, still more to dump but that will have to wait for the spring pick up.
With the change in weather a lot of us get the urge to stock up, on decorations and food LOL. Sometimes I get the urge to eat like a mother bear trying to stock up for the winter slumber, having to watching that is a battle. I like to bake in the fall also which can be a hazard to everyone’s weight in the house. Why, does it seem like the more I exercise the more I get hungry? Anyone have a suggestion?
Now this time of year is also when wedding pick up out here, it’s the best time for an outdoor wedding, cool temps make it wonderful for guys in suits and girls in heavy dresses to not melt half way through their vows! Fall wedding are fun with all the different decorations that start popping up around town. Right now we have booking all the way into December. I used to say it’s our busy season but this last year it held steady all through the year for us! Yeah!
Back to the urge to de-clutter, It’s funny as some other ladies I’ve spoken with in Facebook groups are going through the same thing, they have the urge to de-clutter or rearrange and redecorate which leads to more clutter just a different color and theme. So we pack away the bright spring and summer colors, change out the placemats for the fall leaves and pumpkins, start looking at curtains and mats with more of a welcome fall theme to them. When I was growing up I don’t remember my mother doing this but mainly because my dad did not believe in decorating for the holidays much. For some reason through my sister and brother are both big on changing out stuff and for sure they have the plastic tubs in the garage all labeled with each holiday season. Who doesn’t do that, right?
I have some holidays I ignore completely and some I go overboard on but that’s my life! I love the decorating shows that have people come into a house and decorate a room for them! Anyone want to come to my house and decorate? I will even throw a party after as long as you promise to come back and help take down all the decorations too.
So here we are almost in fall in the desert and we are still hitting 100+ during the day but the evening or rather early mornings it’s wonderful at 70 what every! We get up early just to enjoy the few hours of cool before the AC kicks on around 9am but that’s the life we chose and we do love it. I hope your urge to de-clutter gives you a sense of enjoyment as you decide to toss out that knickknack or pack a way the placemats and get out the pumpkin spice scented candles. Enjoy and embrace the change, you are not alone in this feeling!
